Sport Psychology and Research Methods

Under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Noora Ronkainen, the department of Sport Psychology and Research Methods has its core emphasis on research areas of identity and meaningfulness in sport, athletic career development and transitions, talent and youth development in sport, and embodiment in the age of digitalisation. We also address questions related to philosophy of science and methodological practice in sport science. Our work strives to understand the psychological factors and developmental processes that impact athletes throughout their careers and lives. We address key issues related to career trajectories in and beyond elite sport, and the pathways to sustainable talent development.

In terms of methodology, we primarily apply qualitative and person-oriented research approaches to social research, as well as mixed methods.
